What is the difference between a Copywriter and Copyright?

Publish On 2008-07-24 , 6:58 PM

Many people are unaware of what copywriters do.  It's quite common.  A lot of people confuse a Copywriter with Copyrights.  I want to stress the importance of each of these things, as they are of great importance to your company's website.

A copywriter is the person who writes the copy.  They will create the "wording" for your web pages so as to market your site correctly.  Many people think that they can write their web pages themselves... but they're wrong.  They end up wasting more money by "doing it themselves" than hiring a copywriter.  Most copywriters may seem expensive, but in actuality, for the service that they provide, it leaves little room for the inefficiency you may find with "doing it yourself".  Copywriters handle most anything that deals with writing.  This includes broshures, web pages, flyers, mailers, presentations, etc.; basically any advertisements that you will be showing to the public!  I want to stress again that it is very important to have a copywriter help with your advertising and marketing strategies as it will save you time and money in the long run. Doing it yourself seems cost effective, but all-in-all when it comes down to it, you're not a professional advertiser or marketing guru...THEY ARE!  Their whole job is based around what is pleasing to the eye, how to grab the audience and make them want to read what you are providing to them.  If nothing else, let them consult you before you make your own copywriting errors.

A copyright is what most people are familiar with seeing.  These are the words (basically) at the bottom of your web pages or documents that say "copyright  ERT Website Solutions 2006" or whatever the case may be.  Everyone has seen it, but not everyone has done it.  It is extremely important for your business to have this copyright on your web site.  The reason? If you don't have copyright protection on your web site, ANYONE can steal your images, creations, products, pictures or wording and use it as if it were their own.  PLAGERISM at it's worst.  A word to the wise, COPYRIGHT your work!!! Especially if your work is what makes or breaks your company and it's reputation!  Ask your web designer about copyrights and a recommended copywriter to help with your web site or other marketing documents.
